For those of you a touch unfamiliar with The House of Vans, it is described as being the place where “off the wall” lives. With locations in Brooklyn, Chicago, and London, House of Vans brings people together to celebrate art and creativity with workshops, installations and awesome live shows.
New York-based band The Drums have just released a single called “Blood Under My Belt” from their upcoming album called Abysmal Thoughts. It’s the album that frontman Jonny Pierce had been wanting to make after he left New York and moved to LA without a plan, right after his music partner and longtime childhood friend, Jacob Graham, left the band to pursue other endeavors. Pierce needed to regroup, to find a new inspiration, to figure out his next move, both personally and musically. But one thing was for certain, The Drums would beat on, continuing their Beach Boy-influenced sound and twisting it into a poppy, retro mix all their own. Imagine a soundtrack to summer mixed with an indie DIY Brooklyn flavor–that’s the music of The Drums.
The Drums’ self-titled debut full-length album was released in 2010, followed by Portamento the following year, and then Encyclopedia in 2014, which was the album that took their sugary sunshine vibes and scratched it up a bit, as heard on tracks like “Magic Mountain” and “Bell Laboratories.” Their latest upcoming release, engineered by ’ Jonathan Schenke (of Parquet Courts) will be released on June 16 on Anti Records.
Welcome the vibes of a steamy summer when The Drums come to Greenpoint at House of Vans for this free show. RSVP May 22 to secure your spot!
