Soundgarden and Audioslave singer Chris Cornell passed away at the age of 52 last night, as reported by one of his representatives, Brian Bumbery. Cornell had been on tour performing live when his life ended on Wednesday. More news has been released about the death of Cornell and it makes an already-sad situation all the more tragic.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner released results from his autopsy on Thursday, according to WXYZ, and it has been revealed that the cause of his death was suicide by hanging. The medical examiner released a statement on the cause of death.
“The Medical Examiner has completed the autopsy on 52-year-old Chris Cornell, the Soundgarden musician who died last night in Detroit. The cause of death has been determined as hanging by suicide. A full autopsy report has not yet been completed. There is no additional information at this time.”
According to police, Cornell’s wife called a family member and requested that they check on him. The friend went to his hotel and was able to force the door open and found Cornell on the floor.

Born in 1964, Chris Cornell, born Christopher John Boyle, became one of the leading voices in grunge music with his band Soundgarden. Cornell had a number of big moments in his career but, possibly the biggest was in 2006 when he co-wrote and performed the song to the James Bond film Casino Royale.
Recently, Soundgarden played “All Your Lies” for the first time in 25 years, much to the pleasure of fans in the audience. Earlier this year, Audioslave reunited for the first time in 11 years at the Anti-Inaugural ball.
