Kaleo is a band from Iceland that formed in 2012. Though the roots of the band come from a town not far from Iceland’s capitol, they call the United States home. Kaleo was formed by three best friends that grew up together since elementary school, they had added the fourth member soon after. JJ Julius Son is on vocals and guitar, David Antonsson on drums, Daniel Kristjansson on bass and Rubin Pollock on guitar. Kaleo have released two albums and one EP. To put the band under one genre of music is a major understatement, they have pieces of different styles of rock in their music. The group can be described as a mix of indie, blues, folk, garage and alternative rock.
Though the Icelandic band is fairly new in the game, they have already sold over 175,000 copies of their second album and gained a number one spot on Billboard Alternative Chart for one of their singles. Kaleo really gained attention after they released their hit single “All the Pretty Girls” in 2014. After moving to Austin in 2015, they began to gain further attention throughout the city and the United States. Living in Austin gave them the ability to perform at South by Southwest, which got them even more noticed.
