Rooney @ The Fillmore 7/07

What started as a high school project blossomed into what is now known as Rooney. The American rock band got its name from a character in the popular film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. The band’s music has been described British rock with a mix of 90s pop. Rooney has been compared to The Cars, Queen, and Weezer. The band has released 4 studio albums and a few singles since their humble beginning.

In 1999, Rooney was first formed after meeting in high school. The band released a series of indie EPs in a span of 3 years. After the release of the EPs, Rooney toured all across the West Coast playing mutiple shows a week. In L.A., Rooney continued to make a lot of buzz with their music. The band signed with Interscope Records in 2002. The band’s self-titled debut album was released a year after signing with Interscope Records. The album debuted at number 2 on Billboard Heatseekers and number 125 Billboard 200 chart. After the release, Rooney toured with rock band Weezer and then appeared at Lollapalooza in 2003. While coming off their summer tour, Rooney began working on their second album. Rooney released the album in early July. Calling The World debuted at number 42 on Billboard Top 100 Albums chart.

Rooney’s latest album Washed Away, was released on May 16 last year. The album was one of their most successful to date. After taking some time off, Rooney is currently back in the studio working on their new album.
