The backbone of The War On Drugs all started in 2003, when Adam Granduciel and Kurt Vile had met each other in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The duo had hit it off and began making music and played in The Violators. It wasn’t until 2005 that they started playing as The War On Drugs. There were members in and out of the band, including Kurt Vile that left in 2008 to work on his solo career.
Now the band currently consists of Granduciel on vocals and guitar, David Hartley on bass, Robbie Bennett on keys, Charlie Hall on drums, Jon Natchez on keys and saxophone and Anthony LaMarca on guitar. The band is considered as a psychedelic indie rock band. With the overall sound being a blurry mix of 80s rock and Granduciel’s hazy voice, it’s a perfect fit for the bands’ name. The War On Drugs recently released a new record on Record Store Day on April 22, Thinking of a Place, be sure to check it out!
