Although not officially announced by the band, it seems apparent that the Arctic Monkeys are currently working on a new album in Sheffield, England. The album would be a follow-up to 2013’s AM.
Just before Christmas, Shamir Masri of the BBC tweeted, “Alex Turner told me during an interview for BBC Sheffield they are coming back to Sheffield to pen a new album – it IS happening,” and subsequent photos emerged of the band all together in Sheffield, being spotted by fans who posted their photos online.
The band members themselves have also posted suggestive photos, with the most recent being a photo posted yesterday by drummer Matt Heders showing his set surrounded by microphones. View the photo below:
Older photos have shown singer Alex Turner writing at a piano, which suggests a new album because of an interview Turner previously gave to NME, stating “I feel bad for not writing for a while. I want to get back on the piano, get back up to writing a song a week.”
Although the band has made no announcements, they’re rumored to be working with Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, as a producer on the album. Alexandra Savior and Miles Kane are also rumored contributors.
Their last album, AM, has been described as their most original release yet. It brought them their third Mercury Prize nomination and also led them to receive a Brit award for Best British Album. Overall, the album was a smash hit, reaching number one on UK charts at its debut in September 2013. Since its release, the band members have kept busy with different projects, including Turners’ involvement with The Last Shadow Puppets and their recent EP release, as well as Heders’ work with Iggy Pop on his recent tour.
