The Canadian indie rock band, The Dears, have just announced the release date of their highly anticipated part two album, Time Infinity Volume Two. The new album is set to drop on July 14th via Dangerbird in the U.S. and Paperbag in Canada.
Following the success of Times Infinity Volume One, the new album, Volume Two, is expected to be the darker side of the two part release. A press release for the new album said, “Both Lightburn and Yanchak identify Volume Two – a record driven by an unmistakable sense of unease – as the comparatively darker component of the Times Infinity series.” Volume One was filled with hugely ambitious and epic sounding songs that carried a great sense of uplifting hope. In Volume Two, it’s safe to assume a different theme and sound throughout all of the songs.
The band, led by husband-and-wife duo Murray Lightburn and Natalia Yanchak, recorded Times Infinity Volume Two in a similar two-year span that they recorded Volume One. They recorded at Toronto’s Revolution Recording and Montréal’s Thee Mighty Hotel2Tango. Lightburn was candid about the process of recording the new album. “At the hotel2tango, it had been a 20 hour day. I worked deliriously towards finishing Volume Two. In part it was because I knew precisely how it was all supposed to fit together but mostly because there was another band’s session coming within just hours. It really recalled those overnight mixing sessions for No Cities Left, complete with a fresh-faced Howard [studio co-owner Bilerman] arriving in the morning, coffee in hand, asking, ‘how did it go?’ I still don’t really know. But I did my best.”
The Dears have had a lot of success, opening for high profile acts like Sloan, Keane, The Secret Machines and Morrissey. They’ve been applauded for their powerful live shows and for their similarities to bands like The Smiths and Radiohead.
