There couldn’t be a better day than Record Store Day to announce to the world that your band is about to release some new music. And that’s exactly what The War on Drugs did–to announce to everyone that they have a new single coming out called “Thinking of a Place,” which happens to be the band’s first music release since 2014 with their super successful album called Lost in the Dream. The single is eleven minutes long.
The War on Drugs formed back in 2005 in Philadelphia, and over the course of their three studio albums the band has seen some major changes in their lineup. The band was originally fronted by Adam Granduciel and Kurt Vile, but Vile eventually went on to pursue a solo album while Granduciel stayed committed to keeping the band’s indie sound alive (despite other switches along the way). Their first album debuted in 2008 called Wagonwheel Blues, followed by Slave Ambient, but it was their third album that really got everyone riled up with their indie-alternative sound–especially with songs like “Red Eyes” and “Under the Pressure.”
The War on Drugs just signed a two-record deal with Atlantic Records, so prepare for something magical and interesting, colorful and exciting. While their last record weighed heavy (exploring themes of depression, heartache, and pain), who knows what turn this new album will take. But don’t we kind of already know how epic it’ll be?
