Like their animal counterparts, sightings of the electronic/rock band Grizzly Bear have been fewer and far between as of late. While we can’t quite call what happens to our furry friends, at least we have some new music to enjoy.
2017 being the year of the comeback, Grizzly Bear are back with some new material, “Three Songs.” The upbeat, pop track will be sure to be a summer mainstay at beach parties and campfires alike. The bouncy synths duel off with lead singer Ed Droste’s strained-but-uplifting vocals leading to a pretty infectious and inspiring chorus. The new track will (hopefully) find a home on the upcoming-yet-unannounced album.
The new track marks the first bit of new music from Grizzly Bear since their 2012 album, Shields. However the band has been slowly teasing a new project over the past year with a series of teaser videos on their Instagram. These videos contained snippets of new music along with psychedelic visuals (directed by Michael Brown of Eaux Claire). Now that the new song is out, Grizzly Bear have explained the logic behind the torture, though they wouldn’t use that word.
“The idea of the snippets on our new Instagram @grizzlybear was something we thought people would enjoy,” they said. “Our songs are usually so layered and dense and it seemed like a fun way to peel back the onion layers of the new album. So to clarify, it wasn’t meant to torture you [yeah right] but more meant to show you small pieces of all the songs from the forthcoming album!”
With a new social media account and new music, all signs point to go when it comes to a new album coming out sooner rather than later. Check out the post and the new video below, and stay tuned as the album rollout starts picking up steam.
