The Smiths’ Record Store Day Vinyl Inscribed with Anti-Trump Warning

Record Store Day is a time to celebrate the culture of independently owned record stores. One major aspect of that culture is the freedom that the independence brings. So, it should be no suprise that The Smiths used this freedom to express their views on the current President of the United States. The English rock band released a UK exclusive, limited edition 7-inch this Saturday with the words “Trump will kill America” etched on the A-side of its run-out groove. A twitter post that is included shows a picture of the etching while a more zoomed in version can also be found below.

The strong message is credited to “Esteban,” spanish for “Steven.” This is the first name of vocalist Morrissey, who famously known by just his last name. His stance on the Trump Presidency was first seen in meme he released to announce his first tour date of 2017, Factmag reports, he mocked Trump. He has also made a comparison to the famous presidential candidate George Wallace who once declared: “Segregation now. Segregation tomorrow. And segregation forever.”

Consequence of Sound reports that the A-side of the vinyl is a demo mix of The Queen is Dead single “The Boy WIth the Thorn in His Side.” The B-side is a never before released “early Drone version” of “Rubber Ring.”

Ryan Fricke: Music is my therapy, which I could not function without. I am currently finishing my senior year a Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida with a Journalism major and a Creative Writing Minor. I first realized I wanted to become a Music Journalist the minute I learned that I could get paid to do the two things I love most, writing and listening to music. I have yet to decide which I am more infatuated with but for the time being I will happily house them to their stalemate. My plans after graduation are unclear but I hope to further gain experience in this profession.
