Atlanta rapper, Big Boi, has just released a new single that has him rapping over a Japanese pop song. The new song, titled “Kill Jill”, cleverly samples a popular song by Japanese pop star Hatsune Miku, called “Digital Affection To Another 2.0.” The song also strongly features both Atlanta rappers Killer Mike and Jeezy, creating a great collaboration and allowing each artist to showcase their abilities.

In “Kill Jill”, Big Boi stays true to his Atlanta hip hop roots, crafting an innovative and sleek beat while incorporating witty lyrics about Bill Cosby. Atlanta has been closely followed over the past few years and has risen as the major innovative center of modern rap music. It has been praised for their experimentation and strange, futuristic sound. Big Boi doesn’t disappoint with “Kill Jill,” combining his beat with Miku’s Japanese singing. The mix of Atlanta hip-hop trap music with Japanese pop shouldn’t work, but it really does.

After Big Boi’s early success with OutKast, he went on to pursue a solo career. In 2014, he signed with Career Artist’s Management and Epic Records and has since been working on a new album, Boomiverse. He released one single from the new album, titled “Mick Jack” and featuring Adam Levine, earlier this week. “Kill Jill’ is the second release from the new album set to drop in June. The song is the latest of several collaborations between Mike and Big Boi, who worked together on tracks by Big Grams, Run the Jewels, OutKast, and more. They debuted their new song at a concert for Atlanta’s V-103 radio station. On April 24, Big Boi will perform “Mick Jack” on “The Tonight Show.”

Killer Mike has had recent success touring with rapper El-P, forming the duo Run The Jewels. He has also been very involved in political activism, speaking out against social inequality and police brutality. Jeezy recently dropped an album in 2016 called Trap or Die 3, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.

Check out the collaboration between the three Atlanta rappers below, and look out for Big Boi’s new album set to drop in June.
