Spotify, who has recently dealt with the death of one of the executives Chris Bevington, has agreed to the deal that makes paid subscribers wait for two weeks after a album is released to be listened to. This option is available to the artist or artists
According to Consequence of Sound, there has already been a license agreement with Merlin, which represents thousands of indie artists and labels. With this labels such as Domino, Warp, Mad Decent and Merge and artists within these labels can restrict streaming for two weeks after a album’s release to a paying Spotify customer.
Even though no artists have been reported to use this license, this action is seen to be a continuous process as Spotify is working to make agreements with Sony and Warner. There is also a “windowing” option to Universal Music Group.
