Matthew Sweet Announces New Double Album Tomorrow Forever for June 2017 Release

But seriously, what is making all these artists come out of hiatus’ these days?In addition to Roger Waters and Gorillaz, legendary power pop icon Matthew Sweet is returning with a new double-LP “Tomorrow Fever,” out this June 16. The new project, his first since 2011, comes after a new burst in creative energy from the songwriter, one unfortunately born out of tragedy. The new album is “an introspective collection” inspired by the loss of Sweet’s mother and his move to Omaha, NE, and was forged out of the 38 tracks sweet recorded from his new home studio.

According to a press release, the new album will feature a nice variety of sounds, but everything “fans have come to expect [from Sweet] while still pushing these familiar elements into previously explored territory, reflecting the profound changes in his life over the past six years.” At the core, the main question of this album is: “Odes what is real extend beyond what the consciousness can readily grasp?”

While there is a central theme, the writing of these songs was completely organic according to Sweet. “I just wrote songs, and then it became clear what they might be about,” says Sweet. “I was dealing with moving for the first time in 20 years, and with the loss of my mom, just the shock of it all.”

In addition to Sweet, a wide variety of muiscians come to join him on his “heartfelt record.” Jason Victor (Steve Wynn & the Miracle 3, Dream Syndicate), Val McCallum (Jackson Browne), John Moremen (The Orange Peels) and Gary Louris (The Jayhawks), will all make contributions to the project, while his longtime rhythm section of Paul Chastain (Velvet Crush) and Ric Menck (Chastain’s partner in Velvet Crush) are joined by the Bangles’ Debbi Peterson on a several tracks. There is also a cameo appearance from The Zombies’ Rod Argent.
