Emerging from Austin, Texas, in 2004 the psychedelic rock band The Black Angels will be coming back to their hometown in May. The Velvet Underground has had a big influence on the band in several ways. First off, the band created their name from Velvet Underground’s song “The Black Angel’s Death Song.” Their logo is even a negative image of Velvet Underground’s singer. Older bands such as Pink Floyd, Joy Division, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Doors and several others have also been a big influence on the group. The band’s overall sound has little hints of all the bands that have influenced them, they really have that “vintage rock” sound.
Over the years, The Black Angels have performed at significant festivals like Lollapalooza, South by Southwest and All Tomorrow’s Parties. The band of course made appearances with other popular psychedelic bands at Austin’s very own annual psych fest, now known as Levitation. Releasing four studio albums, a few Eps and singles, their fifth studio album Death Song is set to be released on April 21. The new record will be released by Partisan Records. Their single from the upcoming album, “Half Believing,” is out for fans to listen.
