The Mark Lanegan Band has just released a music video for their single “Beeehive,” off the forthcoming album Gargoyle. View the video below, which features a vampire couple eating mice inside their home before deciding to forego drinking blood and instead choose a night on the town. They head to an oceanfront casino where they have fun playing the games but receive judgmental looks, so they venture outside, share a dance for a while, and then end the night by watching the sunrise on the beach – possibly ending it all, if they’re the type of vampires that can’t be in sunlight. Gargoyle is Lanegan’s 10th solo album throughout a nearly 30-year solo career, which will be released April 28 via Heavenly Recordings. Several of Laengan’s long-time collaborators helped create the album, including Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, Greg Dulli of the Afghan Whigs, producer Alain Johannes, multi-instrumentalist Duke Garwood, and English artist Rob Marshall. In addition to “Beehive,” Lanegan also release the lead single “Nocturne” in February.
In addition to Lanegan’s solo career, he has been a part of several bands and collaborations. In 1984, he began his musical career as the front man of Seattle-based band Screaming Trees, and went on to collaborate with many musicians like Kurt Cobain, Lead Belly and Mad Season. Once Screaming Trees disbanded in 2000, Lanegan joined Queens of the Stone Age full time and sang on five of the band’s albums from 2000 to 2013. Among many other collaborations and projects, Gargoyle will be Lanegan’s first album under The Mark Lanegan Band monike since 2014’s Phantom Radio.
Phantom Radio was released via Vagrant Records with an average rating from most news sites, and was also produced by Alain Johannes. On Phantom Radio, Lanegan took his usual blues rock sound and incorporated more modern, folktronic styles. Consequence of Sound stated “So many of the musical gains Lanegan has made over his last couple releases — tested and hard-won styles and formulas you’d assume would be here — are missing, like hitchhikers picked up along an extensive journey and then dumped just a few miles outside of town.”
Lanegan has even been working on his many collaborations at the same time as Gargoyle, recently singing Andrew Joslyn’s new track “Desiderata,” and contributing to Magnetic Eye Recordings’ Wall (redux) tribute to Pink Floyd.
