Pop-punk duo Diet Cig are coming to Wicker Park’s Subterranean on June 4th. The “two homies just making eggs on the regs” are known for their catchy and raw sound that is a perfect blend of pop lyrics and garage band. With Alex Luciano on guitar and vocals and Noah Bowman on drums, the two make up a powerful duo.
The group formed in 2014 when Bowman was playing a house show that Luciano was attending. After an odd exchange – Luciano asked for a lighter, Bowman gave her a bottle of wine in return – they exchanged numbers with plans to collaborate on a music video. And Diet Cig was formed; they began creating music together and released their first EP Over Easy in February 2015. Luciano wrote the lyrics in her bedroom and the songs focus on embracing their uniqueness and living for themselves rather than pleasing others and living up to their expectations. The name Over Easy comes from a breakfast special at the restaurant where the two would go almost daily.
The group’s debut LP was released TODAY! I spent the morning listening to Swear I’m Good At This with its raw garage sound with whimsy pop vocals A great album to listen to on a sunny day – come see them live in June.
