Father John Misty @ Bass Concert Hall 9/29

Maryland born, indie-folk singer songwriter, Josh Tillman also known as Father John Misty, has been in the music biz longer than most people think. Tillman started out his music career in 2004. After releasing a few solo albums, he played drums for a couple of bands for a bit. Tillman was the drummer for Fleet Foxes for about five years and was a part of Helplessness Blues.

In 2012, Tillman left Fleet Foxes to start under what most people know him as today, Father John Misty. Over the past five years, he has released three studio albums, many singles and a couple of music videos.  The latest album, Pure Comedy, was released on April 7 ,2017. Pitchfork explains in Pure Comedy, “Tillman might sound preachy, but he is also inspired.” Throughout most of Tillman’s music, his soft voice portrays a good layout for the piano and violin to fill in the spaces, sometimes he will throw in unexpected weird noises.

While Tillman isn’t afraid to show what he feels on social media, he has taken a toll expressing his political thoughts from this past year in his music too. On election day, he released a cover of “Trump’s Private Pilot” and on November 22, he released his single “Holy Hell.” His website is weirdly amusing with klutzy animations, check it out if you haven’t already.
