American rapper Russ is one of the few bright spots in the rap game right now. His single, “What They Want” has gained a spot on the Billboard Hot 100 this past year. Russ brings his style of music to the Union Transfer this upcoming May. Russ has currently signed to Columbia music label and is a part of rap group Diemon Crew.
Russ didn’t start writing music until the age of seven and produced his first song at 18. Russ used his love of music at an early age to help with moving. His first album, Velvet was released in 2011 under Diemon records. Russ began making waves on music streaming service Soundcloud. Russ has been on the same path as other indie artists like Chance The Rapper. Showing the world you don’t need to have a fancy record deal to make it big. His constant flow of lyrics with catchy beats makes him of the best up and coming artist. In a world full of the same old music, Russ is a breath fresh air. Russ has been busy touring all over the world selling out shows. Not many people can do that this early in their career. Russ’ last album was released in 2014.
Over the years, Russ has been cosigned by world famous people. Kylie Jenner once snapchatted a small part of his song in one of her posts. Fellow rapper Waka Flocka Flame gave him a shoutout in the media earlier last year. “What They Want” debuted at number 83 on the Billboard Hot 100 this year along with “Losin Control”. Russ announced the release of his new album this year.
