WATCH: Sigur Rós Perform New Song “Niður” Live

To a crowd of astonished fans at the Fox Theatre in Oakland last night, Sigur Rós performed an unreleased track titled “Niður,” Gigwise reports.

The performance was ushered in by the group’s lead vocalist/guitarist Jón Þór Birgisson, now know as Jónsi, as he uses a bow on his guitar to match the hauntingly high pitch of his vocals. A fan made video of decent quality can be found below from the April 9 show in Oakland as well as one from their Berkley show a day before via Youtube.

The new track is off of the Icelandic band’s forthcoming eighth studio album. While the track “Óveður” is the only recorded song for the new album, it is clear after hearing this performance that these two tracks indicate a dark theme is in store. “Óveður” was released about a year ago, which indicates that the band is going to take their time with this album.

Sigur Rós are currently on Spring 2017 Tour that this show was a part of. The tour began on April 7 at the Santa Barbara Bowl in Santa Barbara, CA and will run for about 22 shows. The tour will include a special show accompanied by the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, CA. The final show will be in Queens, NY at the Forest Hills Stadium on June 17. For a full list of tour dates and ticketing information, see below.

Ryan Fricke: Music is my therapy, which I could not function without. I am currently finishing my senior year a Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida with a Journalism major and a Creative Writing Minor. I first realized I wanted to become a Music Journalist the minute I learned that I could get paid to do the two things I love most, writing and listening to music. I have yet to decide which I am more infatuated with but for the time being I will happily house them to their stalemate. My plans after graduation are unclear but I hope to further gain experience in this profession.
