Kate Nash, the singer, songwriter, musician and actress has been keeping busy. She recently joined the cast of Netflix’s new comedy G.L.O.W, which is about a women’s wrestling league and stars Alison Brie and Marc Maron. Just recently, along with her new television project, the UK singer has also dropped a new song called “Call Me’ from her EP set to release April 21, Agenda.
Nash has had a very up and down career so far. After such early success with her hit single “Foundations” and her debut album Made of Bricks, fans were excited to see what she’d come up with next. Her second album, My Best Friend Is You, just didn’t match the commercial success of her first. Out of the blue, Nash was blindsided by being dropped from her record label. She was very transparent to the public about how scared she was when unexpectedly without a record label. On the bright side, however, she felt more in control of her music and was determined to continue her music career. She started her own label, Have 10p Records, and released her third album, Girl Talk, independently. Nash even started a GoFundMe to raise money for her fourth album. She has already raised over $53,000.
Her new song, “Call Me”, is a great sign for her soon-to-drop EP as well as her fourth album. “Call Me” has Nash sounding powerful and in control of her song. Her voice has an edgy attitude, but also a dream-like and sun bright exuberance. In an interview with I-D, Nash said, “I wanted to write something that would feel really uplifting at a festival and have like, a Flaming Lips point of reference. It’s about having gone through a ton of shit so, “you can call me, baby, and I’ll call you back”. I’m pretty rubbish at being on the phone but it’s supposed to be about how I can help people with what they’re going through because I’ve been through a lot of shit. I definitely want my experience in the music industry to help other young people coming up.”
Check out her new song below and keep an eye out for her new EP on April 21, as well as her new Netflix comedy, G.L.O.W. She also has a short tour date in the UK set for August of 2017. After some struggles with her previous two albums, Nash seems to be on the rise with a lot of momentum behind her.
