Throughout their extremely successful career, Radiohead has taken on covers of songs from Glenn Campell’s “Rhinestone Cowboy” to Blondie’s “Union City Blue,” and many others. Generally these covers are heard once, maybe twice if your lucky at a live show. However, one of the exceptions to this rule is there cover of “Nobody Does It Better” by Carly Simon, according to Rolling Stone.
This theme to James Bond’s The Spy Who Loved Me, was first covered by the band in 1995. Excluding Dr. No in 1962, this was the only single to have a different title than the movie at this time. The Band covered this song a total of 16 times during their career and it made a frequent appearance on their OK Computer tour.
Later, they wrote the song “Spectre” for a Bond movie with the same title but Sam Smith’s single “Writings on the Wall” was chosen instead. Unfortunately, it was discovered that critics preferred Radiohead’s version. Sorry Sam Smith- you just can’t compete with Radiohead.
Radiohead just kicked off their 2017 tour this week with their performance of the song “The Tourist,” for the first time in nine years. They will also be in the key lineup for Glastonbury festival at the end of June. The festival is unfortunately sold out, so it looks like you will have to buy tickets to their tour, but is that really a bad thing? Be sure to check out the cover below!
