Deerhunter @ Austin360 Amphitheater 5/9

Deerhunter is an indie-psychedelic band that will be opening up for the Kings of Leon at the Austin360 Amphitheater in May. The band was formed in 2001 in Atlanta, Georgia by Bradford Cox (vocals and guitar) and Moses Archuleta (drums and keyboard). Currently, they are under three different record labels: 4AD, Stickfigure Records and Kranky.

Though Deerhunter was formed in 2001, they didn’t release their first album, Turn It Up Faggot, until 2005. Over the years, they have let out six albums, two EP’s and a numerous number of singles. It’s shocking that the band recorded their second album, Cryptograms, in a whim of only two days. Deerhunter’s latest album, Fading Frontier, was released in 2015 under 4AD. The album consists of nine songs that shows off the bands use of soothing synthesizers and reverb guitar riffs.

Throughout Deerhunter’s years, they have been through several changes of members. The group’s first bassist, Justin Bosworth, died in 2004 from head injuries due to a skateboarding accident. Cox and Archuleta have been the only two stable members throughout the whole time. Cox’s best friend from high school, Lockett Pundt, joined in 2005 as a guitarist and is still a member. Currently, the band consists of six members. The remaining three are Josh McKay (bass and organ), Javier Morales (keyboards and saxophone) and Rhasaan Manning (percussion).
