Gorillaz Announce First North American Show in Six Years

The Gorillaz have announced their first North American show in six years, which will be a headline performance at Le Festival d’été de Québec in July. This is the band’s second announced show for the summer, with the first being their own Demon Dayz Music Festival on June 10 in Margate, England. The last show the Gorillaz played was in November of 2010 at the Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England.

The appearances will support their forthcoming album, Humanz, which is also the band’s first album in six years since the 2011 release of The Fall. The album is set to include a wide range of collaborators, including Noel Gallagher, Carly Simon, Grace Jones, Pusha T, Danny Brown, Vince Staples and many more. It will be released April 28 via Parlophone and Warner Bros. Their last album, The Fall, is known for its experimental nature because many tracks were created with an iPad, along with other digital instruments like a Korg Vocoder, microKORG, Mimomoog Voyager and Korg Monotron.

Le Festival d’été de Québec runs 11 days, from July 6 to the 16th, at Quebec City’s historic Plains of Abraham. Other headliners include Metallica, Muse, The Who and Kendrick Lamar, along with other performers such as Flume, Death From Above 1979 and Phantogram.

The Gorillaz are a virtual band created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. The virtual band members, 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Russel Hobbs and Noodle, are shown through the band’s website and music videos, and are sometimes projected during live performances. Albarn is the only permanent musical contributor, and the live performance lineup has gone through several changes throughout the past 19 years.
