Punk-rock legends The Offspring are making their way into the Bay at the end of summer. The band will be playing the Shoreline Ampitheatre in Mountain View on September 27th. They will be joining Sublime with Rome on this tour that covers most of North America.
The Offspring have been credited with reviving punk rock in the 1990s and still to this day are a part of some of the best punk-rock bands to come out of California. The band’s inception in 1984 may have been back 30 years ago, but their songs are still staples on the radio. Their most recent album was released back in 2012 with Days Go By, which had the hits Cruising California (Bumpin’ In My Trunk), Days Go By, and Turning Into You. Previous to that the band has released eight other studio albums and because of their third album 1994’s Smash, the band quit literally smashed the charts and broke into mainstream success. That album has the punk-rock favorites such as Self-Esteem, Come Out And Play, Bad Habit, and Gotta Get Away. What’s so great even 20 years ago the band was down to experiment with different sounds and that has continued to this day. Other great songs by this fantastic band are You’re Gonna Go Far Kid, The Kids Aren’t All Right, Want You Bad, Hammerhead, and Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?. Honestly, pick a decade and the band easily has two or three commercial and critical hits. With their 1994’s album they came out with the song What Happened To You, is driven by a jamaican type of ska beat layered with Greg K’s signature vocals or in their 2012 album the song Cruising California has cool R & B undertones with the lyrical style and accompanying background music. They dabble in cool sarcastic songs too like with 1998’s Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) and Pay The Man or 1996’s Disclaimer which is a … literal disclaimer.
Fans of Bad Religion, NOFX, or Green Day this concert is gonna be for you. This band is iconic in their contributions to the punk community. They continue to influence current bands with their feat as a band operating in an indie industry. The Offspring are known for their amazing shows, so pick up a ticket and watch these legends rock.
