Parisi and RZA joined forces to release an extremely powerful song and video combo, “No Refuge,” a cry for attention to a wildly under acknowledged crisis that is currently affecting the lives of millions in Africa and the Middle East.
The Wu-Tang member RZA speaks directly about the refugee issue in Syria and doesn’t skip a beat when addressing President Trumps travel ban. RZA’s lyrics don’t hold back for a second speaking truth’s that many have thought but don’t have a platform to say. In a bridge to the chorus he shouts “Let’s make America great again, but not a place that’s filled with bigotry, racism and hate again, I wanna fall at the feet of Lady Liberty, from the redwood forest to the Gulf Stream…but they won’t let me in, no, they won’t let me in.”
The video speaks as loud as the words RZA raps. Starting with a group of immigrant’s from every race dressed in different religious, modern and traditional garbs, slowly walking across a barren and foggy field, the video is meant to show the struggle of their journey. As the Parisi produced beat picks up the group members in the video slowly join together in an expression of resilience. As one member falls to the ground the others gather around and help the injured member back up and continue forward. The symbolism is absolutely beautiful and rings true with many immigrants and the struggle they or their families are enduring.
The video directed by Ben Strebel can be seen below. All proceeds from streaming and sales will be donated to the United Nations Refugee Agency so share this with your friends to support the cause or visit the website to see what you can do.
