LISTEN: The New Pornographers Release New Song “Whiteout Conditions”

Canada’s indie-rock sensation, The New Pornographers, has just released another piece from their highly anticipated forthcoming album, Whiteout Conditions. The new song is the album’s title track and is not the first the band has shared from their follow up to 2014’s Brill Bruisers. The new track can be streamed below via YouTube.

The first single the band chose to share was “High Ticket Attractions,” which they released through lyric video then soon after released a full music video for that was directed by Dan Huiting. Also, during the release of the lyric video The New Pornographers released the audio for “This Is the World of the Theater,” another song off the album. The album is due for an April 7 release and will see its released through the band’s own Collected Works label, in partnership with Concord.

As reported by Under The Radar, Carl Newman, the band’s Co-founder, has this to say in a press release about the new album: “On other records it felt like sometimes it was very clear: oh, this is a fast one with me singing, and then the next would be a slow song with Neko [Case] singing. And I’ve always liked that in a White Album kind of way, being a band that just does whatever the hell they want from track to track. ‘Let’s try to give it a sound and see how focused we can make it.’ And on this record, I think we went a lot farther down that road.”

The New Pornographers are currently on tour in support of the new material that included performance at Austin’s SXSW Festival. The remainder of the tour will have the group on the road till early May, where they will consequently make an appearance in Austin, Texas again at the Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater, all tour dates can be seen below.

UPDATED: Additional shows have been added below. Some of the new shows will include Spoon as a special guest. There is also a behind the scenes look at the making of the video for “High Ticket Attractions” added that can be seen below.

Ryan Fricke: Music is my therapy, which I could not function without. I am currently finishing my senior year a Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida with a Journalism major and a Creative Writing Minor. I first realized I wanted to become a Music Journalist the minute I learned that I could get paid to do the two things I love most, writing and listening to music. I have yet to decide which I am more infatuated with but for the time being I will happily house them to their stalemate. My plans after graduation are unclear but I hope to further gain experience in this profession.
