For the past several months now, Gorillaz have been teasing something big with their next album, and today, we finally got some concrete information, and man…this album is going to be good.
Gorillaz will make their impatiently anticipated return with their new studio album, Humanz, which will be released on April 28!
Anything new when it comes to Gorillaz is exciting enough, but the guest features only up the anticipation. Joining the digital band on their new LP are a slew of artists across a wide berth of genres. Vince Staples, De La Soul and Pusha T will undoubtedly provide some fuego bars while artists like D.R.A.M., Dann Brown and Popcaan will be sure to provide high-level energy on their apperances. Other artists such as Kelela, Anthony Hamilton, Benjamin Clementine and several others will all make an appearance. The album will also include interludes narrated by Ben Mendelsohn.
Oh and as of right now four of the tracks are uploaded on to Tidal (sigh) but are currently locked out of streaming…for now.
The 14-track album will be available in all the standard formats (digital, CD, and vinyl), and there will also be a 19-track 2 CD deluxe edition (see bonus songs below). Still not enough? Neither is it for the Gorillaz. There will also be a Super Deluxe Vinyl Box Set featuring additional alternative versions of all 14 tracks, across 14 pieces (!!!) of different colored 12” records, each in their own art-worked sleeves. In addition to the physical records, the box also includes a 54-page book featuring exclusive Gorillaz artwork by Jamie Hewlett. While you will have to wait a little bit longer (mid-summer) for the physical box set, the preorder will come with a download code which will be received on the album’s April 28th release date.
Assuming you’re still here and haven’t jumped straight to the nearest pre-order page, there’s even more for fans to get hyped over.
In addition to the album announcement, the band was also kind enough to drop off an animated film/music video featuring the new track “Saturnz Barnz,” as well as snippets of three other Humanz tracks. The film takes viewers on a journey with the band as they enter an abandoned house as all sorts of tripiness breaks loose.
The band also released the video in a 3D/360 version that only makes things even trippier. There is also an “interactive” VR version set to be released later in April.
Oh but we ain’t done yet.
Fans will be able to hear the album in its entirety when Gorillaz play the album front-to-back live at a secret London location tomorrow. Get your tickets for it here.
If you can’t catch an overnight to London then you can also see the Gorillaz as they headline the recently announced Demon Dayz festival this June 10th.
