The Jesus and Mary Chain @ Union Transfer 5/15

When most people think of post-punk, The Jesus and Mary Chain comes to mind. The Scottish alternative rock/post-punk band is one of the most successful indie punk bands ever to be created. After breaking up in 1999, TJMC reunited in 2007. The Jesus and Mary Chain is releasing their seventh studio album, Damage and Joy. TJMC is performing later this year at the Union Transfer.

The band consists of songwriters Jim and Willam Reid with Mark Crozer and Scott Van Ryder on the bass guitars. The current drummer is Brain Young. TJMC started playing small gigs around their hometown of London before relocating to Fulham, London. Early in their career, the band drew comparisons to Pink Floyd and The Ramones. The Jesus and Mary Chain recorded their first single, Upside Down in October of 1984. The single topped UK Indie Chart the same year, making it one of the best selling indie single of its time. In the early days of their career, the band was known for playing short gigs. A few years later, TJMC released their second album, Darklands during one of their tours. After the band split in 2006 after tensions in the group.

The Jesus and Mary Chain regrouped a year later at the 2007 Coachella preforming one of their hit songs, Just Like Honey. Shorty after, Jim Reid anncouned a new ablum was in the making. Since 2007, the band has released more music and continued to tour around the world. In 2015, the band anncouned they would release a new album soon since 1998. Last year, The Jesus and Mary Chain comfirmed their new ablum, Damage and Joy would be release this month. Head to your nearest record store or streaming serive and get their new ablum.
