Father John Misty unexpectedly dropped three new tracks today. The three songs come before his newest album Pure Comedy that is set to release April 7th. Although they are out 3 weeks before his album they wont be featured on the EP. The songs are aptly named Generic Pop Song #3, Generic Pop Song #9, and Generic Pop Song #16. They all ooze pop excellence and prove that Father John Misty is a singer song writer genius. Despite his track record for distinctly massive indie rock arrangements he has shown he can bridge the gap and make pure pop records. The three songs are irresistibly catchy and may as well be Taylor Swift radio hits, but somehow Father John Misty makes it okay for fans to make a comparison like that and tell their friends. The use of electric and hip hop beats covered by layers of piano and light synths give his vocals an amazing platform to croon and float boldly over the songs. His ability to make catchy melodies that verge on the line of r&b or soul is so impressive it will have you playing the songs again just to make sure you are hearing everything correctly. This step away from his traditional folk sound is a treat for music fans of any back ground and really give core fans something to be excited about.
The infamous Father John Misty got his start playing drums for bands in college. While he toured for those bands he was playing sideshows and opening gigs as a singer songwriter, playing his first solo music I Will Return. His first tracks were distributed on self-burned CD-R albums. In 2006 a label picked him up and he released his first real EP Minor Works. After extensive touring with Fleet Foxes and solo work he finally evolved his moniker to Father John Misty releasing Fear Fun under the name in 2012. Since his work has spread to massive audiences and given him a platform to express his contempt with the entertainment world and perform his unique arrangements. He will be performing at Coachella this year and his album Pure Comedy drops in April.
Update: For reasons unseen Father John Misty pulled the songs from the internet. As randomly as these tracks appeared they disappeared. As of now there is no explanation from the Misty camp. We will keep this updated as information unfolds.
