The song still remains the same; and, in the case of Pearl Jam‘s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame— all five-drummers from the legendary PJ saga still deserve inductee status the same.
According to Consequence of Sound, “Of the five men who’ve drummed for the band, only founding member Dave Krusen and current stickman Matt Cameron are to be formally inducted alongside frontman Eddie Vedder, bassist Jeff Ament, and guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready.”
Understandably, former drummers Dave Abbruzzese, Jack Irons, and Matt Chamberlain are all feeling like they just got a serious burn. Of the former excluded three, Dave Abbruzzese is especially disenchanted. Abbruzzeses said, “I challenge anyone to justify why I am not worthy of a place in the history of Pearl Jam…The official reason given from the RRHOF makes it bullshit…” The 1991 to 1994 member of PJ goes on to say, “It make my years of hard work appear to be worthless towards the success born of the formative years of Pearl Jam. This is simply not the case. The milestones and the success obtained during my period in the band… The Grammy, AMA’s, MTV Awards, over 20 plus million albums sold. MTV Unplugged performance. SNL twice, etc. Over 275 shows.”
We feel for you Dave, we really do…
And, so to do the current members and future inductees of Pearl Jam. In an effort to sway the RRHOF’s decision to exclude some of their former drummers, and convey their own understanding to Abrubruzzese and co., PJ released a letter earlier this week inviting all five drummers from the Pearl Jam lineup to join them onstage in their performance at the official ceremony on April 7th.
Questions of whether Pearl Jam’s hand-written invitation, and the likeliness of a five-drummer live-performance, come April, are still left relatively unanswered. But, a whole lot of sway is at least in play. Stay tuned…
