Smif-N-Wessun @ Underground Arts 3/16

Smif-n-Wessun is a talented hip-hop duo hailing from Brooklyn. The last EP the duo released was back in 2013 called Born and Raised. Smif-n-Wessun heads to the Underground Arts in Philadelphia this upcoming April.

The hip-hop duo got their start in Brooklyn, the birthplace of hip-hop, back in 1993. The group first was featured on Black Moon’s album Enta da Stage in 1993. After performing on two songs, Smif-n-Wessun released their debut song, “Bucktown” in early 1994. “Bucktown” was a major hit and paved the way for their debut album, Dah Shinin’ which was released in 1995. The album debuted at number 5 on the Rap/Hip-Hop Albums charts. The album alone sold over 300,000 units in the United States. Dah Shinin’ is considered one of the most influential albums to come out of the 1900s. Over the years, Smif-n-Wessun teamed up with Boot Camp Clik on multiple occasions. One of their first albums were “For The People”, released in 1997. Their latest album, Born and Raised was considered one of their best.

Smif-n-Wessun was an important part of the hip-hop culture back in the 1900s. They teamed up with legends like 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, and many others. Anyone of their albums gave way to great music and some of the hip-hop we hear today. Be sure to catch them perform some of their hits songs when they come to the area.
