Phantogram @ The Glass House 4/23

The haunting hymns of Phantogram can be traced back to 2007 when Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel both returned home from pursuing their own futures only to figure out that their future existed in their past.  The two grew up friends from junior high, both expressing interest in the arts.  Barthel had set off to study visual arts while Carter was in New York City making the best of an experimental band he had formed with his brother.  Upon reuniting, Carter’s unfinished songs became the focal point and they were eventually finished under the moniker Charlie Everywhere, drawing influence from J. Dilla, the Beatles and the Flaming Lips, just to name a few.

In 2009 the band signed with UK label Barley Breaking Even and subsequently changed their name to Phantogram, a name that was inspired by an optical illusion where a two-dimensional image is perceived as three-dimensional.  Phantogram began to expand upon their dream-pop, trip hop, soundscape when they signed with BBE (Europe) Indica Records (Canada) and Barsuk (U.S.) all in the same year to release their debut album Eyelid Movies which was met with favorable reviews.  Singles such as “Mouthful of Diamonds” and “When I’m Small” acted as the catapult for the album and launched the band into dark depths of their success.

This year, Phantogram is once again on tour and will be conducting their energized and sharp hitting sound into a cosmic crescendo at the Glass House in Pomona on Sunday April 23, 2017.  Tickets are expected to move quickly and this is certainly an event that should be missed if one can help it.
