On the brink of releasing their seventh LP Emperor of Sand at the end of the month on Reprise Records, Mastodon have dropped a new video for their song “Show Yourself.” The song was actually premiered back at the beginning of February, but now there is off-the-wall video for the track. Other songs released from the album, set for release on March 31, 2017, include “Andromeda” and “Sultan’s Curse” (which premiered along with the announcement of the new album).

The comical video stars a bumbling grim reaper working for the Department of Death. As hard as he tries, he is unable to follow through on his corporate overlord’s orders to kill the four members of Mastodon (though he does manage to kill four bizarro versions of Troy Sanders, Brent Hinds, Brann Dailor and Bill Kelliher). By the end of the video the reaper is on a bourbon-fueled bender when he kills a fruit vendor (comedian Brian Posehn), eats his banana and tosses it into the street. As luck would have it, Mastodon’s bus drives right down that street, slips on the banana peel and… you can guess the rest.

Check out the video below:

The video was shot in Los Angeles with director Robert Schober – who is also known as Roboshobo. He also worked with the band on their video for “Curl of the Burl” back in 2011.

The band will be on tour this Spring and Summer on what will be one of the most exciting bills of the year – Eagles of Death Metal and Russian Circles will be joining the hard-rocking band as they travel from April in Montana till late May in Austin, TX.

In other Mastodon news, guitarist Brent Hinds will be making his second cameo on the HBO smash fantasy-drama Game of Thrones. It will be the musician’s second appearance on the television program.
