CARLOS VIVES @ The American Airlines Arena 5/13

One of Colombia’s sexiest exports visits Miami

Most recently known for his hit “La Bicicleta” with fellow compatriot, Shakira, Carlos Vives has broken records and boundaries few could transcend.

Uninhibited by language barriers, his music has earned him the title as the first Colombian artist to win a Grammy. Since his breakthrough single “La Gota Fria,” his star has only continued to climb.

His roots stem from Columbia, where Vivas found fame and success as an actor but failed to acquire any credible recognition as a musician.  After a few failed albums and several roles in films and television, he landed his big break as the lead on the Colombian series Escalona. The program was based on the life of vallenato composer Rafael Escalona and Vives was so inspired by the role, he shifted his musical focus from the heavy-synthesized ballads he was known for, towards vallenato gaining the national success that long eluded him with the telenovela’s soundtrack albums.

Upon completion of Escalona, he angered vallenato purists when he merged the genre with rock, pop and other Caribbean Colombian ethnic rhythms. The bold move proved to be a smart one as the album’s single: “La Gota Fria,” became a hit all over Latin America and transcended into the United States.

Since then, critical and commercial success has followed him and now at the age of 55, Vives is headlining yet another tour:  Carlos Vives – The USA Tour 2017 that stops in Miami at the American Airlines Arena in May.
