Michael Stipe Will Debut His Solo Music at Moogfest

The already-impressive Moogfest 2017 lineup got just a bit more special today. Brooklyn Vegan reports that Michael Stipe of R.E.M. will showcase his first-ever solo music as part of an art installation at the festival. The theme of Stipe’s installation is the exploration of movement and desire; it features shots that the Georgia-born musician shot of New York City over a period of a few years. Scoring the entire piece is a song that Stipe composed with Moog instruments, marking his solo debut.

This will be both the debut of Stipe’s solo work as well as the premiere of his visual art piece. This installation is scheduled to run throughout the duration of the four day festival.

The festival recently announced a major wave of huge artists, with Flying Lotus, Animal Collective and Gotye among the biggest names. They will join artists like Wolf Eyes, S U R V I V E and Simian Mobile Disco at the Durham, North Carolina best alternative music festival. The event will take place from May 18 to May 21.
