There has been another tour cancellation out of Gregg Allman for his upcoming 2017 tour. Allman’s site had this to say on Monday, “It has been determined that Gregg will not be touring in 2017.” The dates that have been canceled include four shows at The Grand Opera House in Macon, Georgia, a handful of gigs at New York’s City Winery and concerts in Chattanooga and Robinsville Mississippi. For any one seeking refunds for these shows it is encouraged that fans contact the outlets that they made the purchase from.
There is no official word as to why these shows have been canceled or any sort of timetable for his return, according to Consequence of Sound. There have been a number of various health issue that have been riddling the Allman veteran’s career as of late, so this sudden cancellation comes as to surprise.
In August, Allman gave fans their first scare when he canceled all dates through late October, 28 gigs, due to “serious health issues.” He went on to explain what happened to him during an interview with Westword.
“Right in the middle of the thing (his Summer Tour) I got pneumonia,” Allman said to Westword. “Yeah, that was a drag. I was almost to the end of a tour. I had to, two more to go, and damn, it just set in. I had to postpone two of the gigs, but we’ll go back and make them up, for sure,” Allman said.
Following these canceled shows, he went on to headline his own Laid Back Festival in Atlanta, but the rest of the Winter Tour was canceled indefinitely due to a vocal injury. This injury required several months for recovery. Some of these shows were rescheduled for the Summer dates that he just had to re-cancel on Monday.
“This is the hardest thing I’ve had to do in a long, long, time,” Allman said in a statement after calling off his winter tour. “I’ve been on the road for 45 years because I live to play music with my friends for my fans. As much as I hate it, it’s time for me to take some real time off to heal.”
According to Rolling Stone, there was also a canceled solo tour back in 2011 by Allman, resulting from an upper respiratory condition. This rare condition was caused after the successful transplant of his liver the year before.
