R. Stevie Moore & Jason Falkner – Make It Be

R. Stevie Moore and Jason Falkner Debut Make It Be

R. Stevie Moore, the beyond brilliant musician who has released over 400 albums since the late ’60s, and Jason Falkner, the singer-songwriter/producer with an impressive track record, make quite the pair in Make It Be. The combination of Moore’s diverse work, which has always incorporated a funky twist on a variety of musical styles, including both experimental and pop, and Falkner’s production and studio skills make this record genuinely fun, hysterical and one-of-a-kind.

Although the majority of the tracks were written by Moore, there seems to be a very good balance between the two musicians throughout the album. The best thing about Make It Be, though, is that it perfectly pulls from almost every musical style on the spectrum. The album’s most hilarious and notable bit is its opener “I H8 PPL” —  surely many of us can relate to this sentiment — which plays with all sorts of genres like rock, pop and experimental. This really highlights the balance between both Falkner and Moore’s particular styles in the album, while songs like “Another Day Slips Away” have somewhat more of an’80s feel. Then there’s the spoken-word piece accompanied by an electric atmosphere, “That’s Fine, What Time?,” which is followed by “Passed Away Today,” a song packed with eerie piano and synths that definitely push the boundaries. It is clear by the first track that the two musicians bring out the best in each other.

To say the least, this is the ultimate collaboration that no one saw coming, as both R. Stevie Moore and Jason Falkner definitely know how to keep us engaged and listening intently. In addition to that, the album blesses us with an entire set of 18 glorious tracks, which is almost too much to ask for. Overall, Make It Be is jammed with extremely fun, weird songs and parts that let us all know the artists had nothing short of a good time recording this album. The arrangement of sounds and voices are magnificent and the duo truly seem to be match made in heaven.
