“Foreigner”–it’s the name of the first song on Pallbearer’s EP called Sorrow and Extinction. It’s twelve minutes long. It starts acoustic, makes you hold your breath a little bit, because you aren’t sure at all what’s about to happen, but you’re ready for it, whatever it is. And then, just over two minutes in, that’s when the song really begins to hit–dragging you into their doom metal world that’s heavy, captivating, dark. The EP is only five songs. But that’s all it took for this band from Little Rock to get a good buzz going in the scene.
Foundations of Burden is the band’s second album release–one that’s still a rather dark record, as you’d come to expect from any metal band whose highlighted tracks are between eight and twelve minutes long. But there’s a different vibe to it than their first. This record is more accessible, meaning that you don’t have to be a diehard metalhead to enjoy what the band is doing here. And it ends with two tracks called “Ashes” and “Vanished” which are a true testament to the band’s willingness to not get stuck in just one version of their classified doom metal genre. They’re willing to play around with their sound, and because of that they’ve received amazing praise from media and fans alike.
Pallbearer will release their third record this year called Heartless on Profound Lore Records.
