North American Franz Ferdinand fans can sleep easy tonight knowing the Scottish rock band has just announced a rare North American tour, beginning in mid may and ending a month later. They will be kicking off the tour in Gulf Shores, AL and ending in Dover, DE on June 15-18 for the Firefly Music Festival. Other major cities include Pittsburgh, PA, Los Angeles, and Toronto, Canada. The last time North American fans were able to see Franz Ferdinand without emptying their pocketbook to fly overseas, was three years ago when they were promoting their fourth studio album from 2013, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action.
Their work has received critical acclaim, with KEXP saying “Franz Ferdinand are the kings of cool, and the unique sound they’ve spent years crafting still captures the hearts of a massive crowd, one night after another. Tonight is no exception – the Sodo show was a sold out affair several weeks before the date. With a massive, twenty-four song set spanning every sound and style across their fantastically eclectic discography, Franz Ferdinand tore the roof off.” Rolling Stone magazine even said “…they return sounding hungry for blood with their twin guitar glam-punk strut,” in praise for the talented group.
They have also been working on an album with members from Midlake, Grandaddy, and Band of Horses, forming the new super-group BNQT. The album will be called Volume 1 and is scheduled for an April release. Additionally, during the midst of the hectic political season, they contributed music to the Anti-Trump 30 days and 30 song series alongside Death Cab for Cutie and Jim James.
