Brother Ali Releases New Song “Own Light”

Hop hop artist and community activist Brother Ali has released a new song to the music sphere this week titled, “Own Light,” one of the tracks from his upcoming album All The Beauty in This Whole Life. The song fits in with Brother Ali’s theme of inspirational and sentimental rhetoric, starting off with a line about finding inner strength during a time of oppression.

They’ve been trying to shut us down our whole life
I thank God for healing
You ain’t got to get me lit, I got my own light
Thank God for listening, listen

The track was released on February 28 and so far has received 15,000 hits on YouTube. The video contains lyrics throughout it’s entire duration, so click below to check it out and see the positive message for yourself.

Brother Ali recently released another single from his upcoming album, called “Pen to Paper,” the first song to appear on All The Beauty In The World. The upcoming album will be Ali’s first project in more than five years, and is set to drop on May 5 via longtime label Rhymesayers Entertainment. The entire album was produced by Atmosphere’s Anthony Davis, and goes into detail about his struggle as a Muslim.

In a press release about the album, Brother Ali said “Each of my albums are the result of the pain, growth and eventual healing that I experience. Articulating the pain and navigating the healing allows the people who really feel my music to travel with me. It’s not only that we hurt together, we heal together as well.”
