Hoping to entice more subscribers, music streaming service SoundCloud is introducing a new subscription plan for $4.99. After a recent acquisition deal with Spotify went under, times have been rough for SoundCloud lately; losing both its COO and finance director. In light of these recent struggles, CEO Alex Ljung hopes that the new addition will help draw in more revenue.
In a statement to The Verge Ljung says, “By expanding our offering, we not only enhance the experience for listeners on the platform, but also unlock new revenue opportunities to further expand our creator-payout program.”
The original service, now rebranded as SoundCloud Go Plus, will still be $9.99, and offer 150 million songs. The new service marked as SoundCloud Go, will offer 120 million songs, no adds, and offline listening.
Monetizing their current 175 million active users into paying subscribers is still an issue, however with the new feature going live as of this morning hopefully it will breed a new future for SoundCloud.
