Metal has a reputation for reproducing itself in the form of several different types of hybrids and offspring: i.e. doom metal, black metal (…and on and on…). But, perhaps one of the more interesting/unconventional approaches to the typified “head-banger’s ball” appeal comes via the latest super group Nova Collective.
Nova Collective, a mash-up of members from the groups Between The Buried and Me, Trioscapes, and Haken, parlays their debut efforts through LA record label Metal Blade Records. The NV album The Further Side is gearing up for a March 10th release; and, to garner intrigue for said event, NV just released a second single. The US and UK quartet crosses both national territories and musical genre’s with their new, fusion jazz/metal-esque track “Ripped Apart and Reassembled”. But, by doing so, NV offers listeners something teeters towards something more a la The Weather Report, and less like Metallica.
However, the group’s “experimental” take on an antiquated genre hi-lights all four member’s unmistakable talent as individual musicians, but also as pioneers of a new-wave of sound: Nova Collective, based off of their latest single, has the power to transcend the boundaries of genre and elicit appreciation from music fans of every kind.
