The duo’s initial inspiration for the collaboration came about after a songwriting session which culminated in the release of their first single “Forces of Decay”.
“Forces of Decay, is about intimacy with another person protecting you from the chaos outside the door. The world, now more than ever, seems to be a dark and confusing place. But you can build an insular world that no one can touch when you have love in your life. [Rogue + Jaye] is a non-traditional pairing and I think the reason it works so well is because we both have great respect for each other and push one another to go out of our comfort zones. It’s been a musical give and take, so to speak, but finding that middle ground and ultimately creating something that we both love and can get behind.”
– Jaye via Rolling Stone Country
In addition to announcing the album release date, the duo has also announced a small run of tour dates as well as releasing the second single from the album titled “Little Relief.”
When you have a collaboration with artists that come from different genre’s the product that results can almost be genreless at times which is exemplified with “Little Relief” because you could label it as an americana song with a little bit of country but the added production and the fact that the song fit the mold of the artists’ individual projects help make it undefinable. Much of this new sound is attributed by Rogue to the chemistry they have as a duo. “We have this thing, and I don’t really know why. It’s just a comfort level. We have this easy spirit with each other where I like hearing her sing, and I feel very comfortable proposing ideas.”
