The reunited British band Ride have released their first new song in over 20 years, “Charm Assault.” The track will appear on Ride’s forthcoming untitled LP, which is expected to arrive this summer via Wichita Recordings and will mark the group’s first since 1996’s Tarantula
.
“Charm Assault has a laid back vibe opening with some downbeats before opening adding in the guitars and breezy vocals from Mark Gardener and Adam Bell. In spite of the generally upbeat tone of the song it has a meaning that goes a little deeper as explained by Bell:
“Charm Assault” is a pretty straightforward expression of frustration and disgust at the people who currently run our country. The tour in 2015 was a good way of reminding us what we were good at in the first place and “Charm Assault” feels like a natural continuation from our peak. When we started writing together again we tried to imagine we’d kept on making music all this time, and this was just the latest one.
Ride originally announced their reunion in 2014, and in the following February of 2015 Bell and Gardener played an intimate acoustic set followed world tour that featured several festival stops, including Coachella. Fans have been properly enticed and are rearing at the bit for new music and thankfully won’t have much longer to wait. The new single is a small taste of new music from Ride and according to Bell even though the title of Ride’s new album is to be announced the album will be released this summer. Listen to “Charm Assault” below and leave a comment guessing what you think the new album will be titled.
