Ty Segall @ Warsaw 5/17 + 5/18 + 5/19

When it comes to rock, Ty Segall is categorized in many sub-genres: indie, garage, glam, psychedelic. The list goes on. He’s fun. His music is whimsical, too–sun-drenched California, glittery, “rad, dude” in a 70’s rock sort of way, laced with acid, full of energy, solid. And since his self-titled release from 2008, Ty Segall has just been cranking out music–singles, EPs, full-lengths–where you can hear who his influences are, ranging from artists like David Bowie, The Byrds and Thee Oh Sees. And with each release his songs just keep getting more and more awesome.

Segall grew up in CA where his interest in music initially sprouted in the underground/garage scene before he leapt into it seriously and made music his main gig–not just as a solo artist but also playing in other bands, as well. Just last year Segall released a studio album called Emotional Mugger on Drag City Records, which is also a website with a video introduction and a 1-800 hotline number blinking on the front page for kicks. It proves just how adventurous of an artist Segall really is–determined to embrace a cool “shock factor” in his work, and to keep his fans holding their breath to see what it is he might do next.

Playing three nights at Warsaw, Ty Segall will surely put on an amazing show–playing a little of this and a little bit of that from his rather lengthy discography, including a new album that is due out this year.
