The 19th season of KCRW’s World Festival is upon us! The Santa Monica College National Public Radio Station has announced the lineup to their world renown annual festival. The line up includes big names such as Spoon, Garbage, Blondie and Ziggy Marley. With many more acts on the roster and more to be announced, the 6 day festival is not one to miss. See below for a full lineup list, ticketing information and festival dates.
89.9 FM’s World Festival will, like the 18 years before it, host sporadic dates and wont be sequential like most festivals. The Festival Kicks off on June 18 and finishes on September 24 and will be held at the Hollywood Bowl amphitheater in Hollywood, California. All nights are slotted to start at 7 pm.
The first night of the festival explodes off the page with Grammy Winner Ziggy Marley making his orchestra debut of his and his father’s music. The night doesn’t fall off there, with The Specials adding their forty years of experience and unique style of punk reggae mix.
The next night, on June 25, will be host to Brazilian troubadour Seu Jorge as he pays tribute to David Bowie with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra to back him. This will be the first time that Jorge will play with an orchestra and will focus on the Bowie’s music in Wes Anderson’s film The Life Aquatic.
On July 9 the amphitheater will be host to the ultimate co-bill of Blondie and Garbage. These timeless musical influences will also share the stage with Los Angeles’ own Sky Ferreira, who will open the show.
Scottish natives, Belle and Sebastian, will usher in the festival’s fourth night on August 6 as they tour North America with Spoon.
The fifth Sunday, August 27, is hosted by the Portland natives Pink Martini as China Forbes and Storm Large off their support. Multi-talented Spanish entertainer Charo will usher in the night of Brazilian samba, ’30s Cuban dance and Parisian café music.
The epic 6 day festival is then closed down on September 24 by Grammy winning Solange. The night will also include Dev Hynes’ Blood Orange and other special guests.
