Due to their widely-acclaimed third studio album, Holy Ghost, pop-punk heavyweights, Modern Baseball, had an extremely successful 2016. The groups third LP dropped last year on May 13th, and went on to make multiple year-end lists from numerous online publications. Holy Ghost debuted at number 53 on the Billboard 200, and became the first Modern Baseball record to utilize the help of a producer – Joe Reinhart, known for his work with Joyce Manor and Hop Along.
The origins of Modern Baseball can be traced back to Brunswick, Maryland, with the high school friendship of Brendan Lukens and Jake Ewald – both of which play guitar and contribute vocals to the group. Eventually, the two founding members relocated to Philadelphia for school, where they went on to meet Sean Huber (drums) and Ian Farmer (bass), completing the formation of Modern Baseball. Like most college bands, they started out playing basement/house shows around Drexel University, along with groups such as The Menzingers and Cayetana. Since the release of their debut album, Sports, Modern Baseball have grown to be prominent figures in the US pop-punk/emo scene. Kicking off their tour on February 13th in the United Kingdom, 2017 is shaping up to be another busy year for the group.
Modern Baseball will play at Emo’s on April 4th, so be sure to get your tickets in advance.
