Hit R&B band The Internet is coming to San Francisco next month. The group will be playing The Independent on March 12th for their The Internet tour, which will also have a show in Oakland if you miss out on this one.
Formed back in 2011 as an offshoot of the wildly successful Odd Future group, The Internet has made a name of it’s own. Beginning as just the duo of Syd and Matt Martians, the group began to grow to extend to a five piece. Their eclectic sound ranges from R&B to neo soul which showcases the vocals and the masterful sound engineering of Syd and the musical talents of Martians. The band’s most recent release came back in 2015 with Ego Death. Hits from that album include the songs Girl, Special Affair, and Get Away. Previous to that the band has put out two other full length releases 2013’s Feel Good and their 2011 debut Purple Naked Ladies, and three other EPs. The Internet’s other popular songs include Dontcha, Just Sayin/I Tried, Palace/Curse, and Cocaine. The band may have not released anything in the past year, but their songs fit the vibes of 2017 easily. The neo-soul and electronic R&B sound of Syd’s voice could easily be played on the radio right now or be bumped at a party on the weekend. Back when Ego Death was first released the band was nominated for a Grammy due to the album’s critical success.
Fans of Tyler, The Creator, Kilo Kish, and Thundercat will be in the know about this band and this show. Come hit up The Independent and watch this group absolutely kill it on stage.
