The Canadian singer/songwriter, record producer, and music video director ,Grimes, has just unveiled her new video “Venus Fly.” The track features Janelle Monae as the video is directed and edited by Grimes herself. The video opens with a foreign language is playing. The video is quite illusive playing on images and mirroring scenes. This is definitely an out of this world music video that Grimes has directed. If you were to only listen to the song it would not do you justice as to the video gives it a whole new element.
This hallucinogenic feeling was created through a technique where Grimes “used the phantom cameras to create a feeling of time suspended.” This imagery was the inspiration for the video. “Venus Fly” is from Grimes’ adored album Art Angels that was placed on basically every End of Year List. Over the past year, she has expanded by touring the album even selling out venues and headlining festivals all across the world.
