American psychedelic rock band, The Flaming Lips have announced some additional tour dates in support of their current album Oczy Mlody. The band is set to travel all along the West Coast in the U.S.before heading up North for a show in Vancouver, Canada, in May
The Flaming Lips are best known for their associations with the 1960s and 1970s psychedelic subculture and continuing tradition of trippy and elaborate stage setups.
The Flaming Lips will kick off a world tour in support of Oczy Mlody on Jan. 21st with a show at London’s Brixton Academy. The album was produced by the band and their longtime producer Dave Fridmann and is the first follow-up to be released since 2013’s The Terror. Oczy Mlody was initially created during a series of projects with Miley Cyrus, who appears on the album’s closing track: “We A Famly.”
Recently in an interview with Rolling Stone frontman Wayne Coyne dispelled the long running myth that the group’s longtime stoner favorite song “Puff The Magic Dragon” is not actually about smoking pot. He says
I’d run into people who’d say, “Oh, that’s them singing about marijuana,” and even though I would outwardly laugh, it was never that to me; and I’d never want that, or purposely do music that did. To me, it is about a dragon, and it’s very sad and emotional. I knew those things existed, but our music doesn’t do that. If it did, it’d be an accident.
